While we were designing our new house blend, we took the time to think about how to articulate what we want in a blend. Generally speaking, people usually drink blend as a way to get a stable and consistent cup. But when I think about it, specialty coffee has established its place in the coffee market enough for us to get an affordable and delicious single origin.

All of the 3 origins we are using to make our new blend, Colombia, El Salvador and Ethiopia are equally delicious on their own, and we also have enough green beans to offer them as individual single origin. So, why create a blend?

The answer may not be around the words we said at the beginning, “stable” or “consistency”. Through the process of making this new blend, we reached an opposite conclusion- what makes a blend interesting and irreplaceable is its subtle unpredictability and fluctuation. Any delicious single origin can bore you after a while if you drink it every single day- we thought, this nuanced difference in each cup is actually what brings people back every day. Seize the moment, and enjoy the once in a lifetime encounter in your cup of our new House Blend Light.

With extraction as an espresso in mind, the bean temperature is set to reach 6 to 8°C higher than that of light roast coffee. To avoid losing unique characteristics, we roast all the way through with medium heat for 10 minutes.

Kurasu's Staff Comment

"House Blend Light is a very well loved coffee by our staff. The fruitiness of El Salvador, combined with the body of Colombia, and the floral aftertaste of Ethiopia. There is no such a luxurious blend. Roasted in as a medium roast, it can be enjoyed as either espresso or pour-over coffee.

At Kurasu's cafe we use the House Blend Light as the base of of our espresso."

When will I receive my coffee bean order?

It depends on when your order is placed.

A. If the order is placed before 3 pm on a Saturday your order will be roasted the following Sunday and the next week’s Monday.
It will then be shipped off that week on Wednesday.

B. If the order is placed before 10 am on a Wednesday there are TWO possible shipping flows.

1. If we have that coffee beans in stock, we will be shipping them that Friday: We will be shipping the extra beans that were roasted the previous Sunday and Monday. We are only able to ship the number of coffee beans we have in our inventory, which is why the majority of the time we will not be shipping coffee bean orders that are more than 200g. However, if we have enough in our inventory, we will also be shipping bean orders of 500g or 1kg.

2. If we don’t have that coffee beans in stock, we will be shipping them on a Wednesday, the week after: The coffee beans will be roasted the upcoming Sunday and Monday.

Pleasantly Surprised!

I’m a bit apprehensive when using medium roast for espresso simply for its volatility. That being said, I did give this blend a try, and needless to say, I am pleasantly surprised!
