In Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and in Hong Kong… some of you may have seen Kurasu outside of Japan.

We have been having an exciting few years growing our family even bigger across borders, and it has been an absolute blast working in such diverse community.

Anniversaries are a great chance to look back to our roots- this year, we yet again remind us that it’s all about the community, and about delivering and sharing great coffee from Kyoto to the coffee lovers around the world.

Staying true to our passion, we are looking forward to sharing another year of journey with you all.

Roaster’s Note

I had this idea for a while, that I’d like to pick Geisha for this anniversary. We don’t usually have Geisha in our regular lineup, but it is a time of celebration after all.

We didn’t want any Geisha, but a Geisha that has its signature flamboyance with a solid terroir as a foundation. Leon-san’s Geisha was just that.

Geisha from Africa is already a rarity to begin with, but what struck me as special and very different from its Central/South American counterpart was what I’d call a sturdy skeleton of acidity. I first noticed that in the crop we had 2 years ago, and I could taste that in this year’s sample, which led us to decide on this special coffee.

Leon-san is one of the producers we’d love to have a lasting relationship with- we had a pleasure of meeting Leon-san and his wife in Osaka, and even through that brief meeting, their passion, love and rich experience left strong impression on us. Knowing that their amazing coffee is built on such wonderful craftsmanship, we can confidently say that this Geisha is truly special and we are so happy to share this with you on this occasion.
