The “Kyoto Series” was born from the desire to make the time spent enjoying coffee even more special while embracing the essence of Kurasu's origin, Kyoto.
Kyoto is a place where tradition and modernity coexist. It is a place of serenity, beauty, and even the time seems to flow a little slowly. Our idea was to capture the essence of such “Kyoto” moments into the product, to make your coffee ritual even more special.
This project was also to showcase Japanese craftspersonship more through our products. The lightweight, smooth feel in the hands and the warmth of hadcrafted piece on their own make this more than a simple ware, but a presence that enriches the time people spend enjoying their coffee.
The design may look simple at first glance, but every details of it is made for a perfect drinking experience.
The fit of the fingers and the balance of the handle went through so many fine adjustments, and the thickness of the lip also had to be just the right thickness. If it is too thin, it will break easily, and if it is too thick, it will be too heavy on the mouth- and considering that the cups will also be used at cafes, durability cannot be overweighed by the aesthetics. Finding the right balance was quite a time-consuming journey.
Cups are available in three sizes (3oz (95ml), 6oz (185ml), and 8oz (250ml)) to suit the beverage of your choice: 3oz for an espresso, 6oz for a latte, and 8oz for a cup of pourover, etc. Every size can be used with either the Circle or Oval Saucer.
