Kurasu’s popular original cap — loved by both our customers and staff — is back with a brand new design.
Designed to complement your style whether you're enjoying coffee outdoors, cycling, or spending time in the city, this cap was created completely from scratch — from the pattern to the fabric and the little tag details.
On the front there is our classic phrase “I drink specialty coffee from Kyoto” embroidered, and on the back, a Kurasu original tag adds the finishing touch.
Because Details Matter
Design, material, and every small component — each was carefully chosen through countless rounds of discussion and testing.
We brought in our favorite caps, tried them on, compared shapes and fits, and studied what makes a hat feel “just right.” We imagined the scenes where people might wear it, and searched for fabrics that would meet both form and function, that gives the comfort we want it to.
After testing a variety of materials, we decided on breathable, water-resistant nylon taffeta (100%) — a light, quick-drying fabric with a soft, flexible touch.
With ventilation eyelets and an adjustable strap, it’s designed to stay comfortable and easy to wear in any setting, whether you’re out camping, cycling, or simply enjoying your coffee outdoors. The soft material also allows the cap to be folded and packed away with ease.
Two simple but important ideas guided the process:
– A hat that suits as many people as possible.
– A design that’s truly one of a kind.
Balancing these two ideals wasn’t easy — but through fine-tuning, conversation, and collaboration, we finally arrived at what felt like the cap: neutral in color, versatile in style, and uncompromising in both design and function.
Crafted Together in Japan
All of Kurasu’s original goods are made in collaboration with Japanese makers who share our values so that each item can truly embody “Kurasu-ness” and the beauty of Japanese manufacturing.
The cap body was handcrafted by Ikegami Boushi Koubou, a hat workshop based in Kyoto. As fellow Kyoto creators, working together felt natural — a collaboration that allowed us to express the essence of Kurasu through local craftsmanship.
The embroidery was entrusted to Kawashima, an embroidery company based in Nagoya. We were drawn to their meticulous work and genuine dedication to their craft — qualities that deeply resonated with our own philosophy.
