Cascara is the dried outer skin of coffee cherries — the fruit that surrounds the coffee bean. In many coffee-producing countries, it’s typically discarded as waste, contributing to environmental issues. However, the cascara we source from small farms in Guatemala is specially processed for tea use.
It features a naturally sweet-tart flavor reminiscent of rosehip and plum, balanced with a gentle honey-like sweetness. Rich in polyphenols with antioxidant properties, it offers a surprisingly complex flavor that you wouldn’t expect from the coffee fruit’s skin.
Because this cascara is finely ground, it brews quickly and delivers a bright, expressive flavor in a shorter time.
We are happy to see cascara in more places around Japan recently- but while coffee lovers are familiar with the flavors of roasted beans, few have experienced the taste of the coffee fruit itself. This tea offers a whole new perspective — a must-try for anyone who loves coffee.
